Just A Woman Cannabis was founded by Marjorie and Sam Forbes Mendez, the first woman minority LGBTQ-owned cannabis brand in New Jersey. United by their passion for community, healing, and social equity, they’ve built a movement that’s more than just a premium cannabis line; it’s a testament to resilience, empowerment, and unity.
Our Founders
Marjorie’s Story
From a young age, Marjorie channeled her experiences with sexual abuse into a lifelong vow to help others see light at the end of a dark tunnel. She dedicated her early career to supporting women and children affected by sexual abuse and human trafficking. Today, Marjorie sits on the WICE and NJC3 boards, advocating on behalf of women at both the state and national levels for cannabis reform. With over a decade of experience in the industry, she is devoted to creating a sense of community over competition; showcasing what women can offer while leaving the world better than she found it.
Sam’s Story
Raised in the streets of NYC, Sam started out in the legacy market at a very young age. Determined to break the mold and carve her own path, she pursued work in union sheet metal and as a private bodyguard, fields where women are often overlooked. Her passion for cannabis, both medicinally and recreationally, led her to collaborate with her wife, Marjorie, where she’s spent the last five years helping to build Just A Woman Cannabis. Sam’s own journey fuels her drive to fight for inclusivity and representation in the industry.
